Depression affects over 15% of adolescents in today’s society. It is a disorder that affects their day to day mood and causes a loss of interest or pleasure in things they would normally enjoy. It also limits their ability to partake activities they should enjoy and carryout life tasks. It also can makes people irritable. There are numerous variables said to be correlated with depression in adolescents. Some examples include, failure to feel wanted or desired, insecurities, lack of religion, and hormones. In this paper, the role of a relationship with christ, or lack thereof, and how it plays a role in adolescent depression. It is hypothesized that adolescents without a christ centered relationship will display higher levels of depression related symptoms and behaviors than adolescents who do. The following literature reviews attempted to demonstrate this hypothesis.
