3D computers graphics
the period of 90’s witnessed a huge development in video gaming graphics. For instance, they changed raster graphics into 3D graphics, that causes many genres of games became popular such as first-person shooter, real-time strategy, and game boy.at the same period, Yu Suzuki a Japanese games developer who worked for Sega used 3D computers graphics on developing Sega AM2 games Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter, many people who helped in creating Virtua Fighter game are originally Employees of Sony Computer Entertainment(SCE). due to the success of Virtua Fighter, the playStation design hardware was evolved from 2D design hardware into 3D hardware. However, 32-bit and 64-bit consoles or known as home video game consoles made a massive impact in the mid-1990s with the help of 3D graphics, such as Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and Nintendo 64. Since arcade games are transferred to consoles tons of arcade players switched to consoles to play at home instead of going to centers.
PC games
The improvement in the technology of computing is the biggest reason why the prices of processors have fallen. For example, Intel processor 80386, Intel processor 80486, and Motorola 68030, that effect the developers to work with 3D graphics and multimedia abilities to produce better content of video games. The Multi-User Dungeon(MUD) is a multiplayer game, it was first announced between the period of 1989 and early 1990s. It had Two codebases and they are DikuMUD and LPMud, because of these two codebases, the reputation of (MUD) dramatically increased. The success didn’t stop the developers from improving with the graphical MUD, they created a new program called massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), it broke the limitation and increased the number of players, and that gave them the opportunity to experience a larger virtual world.
The early 1990s, a new free software was introduced called shareware, this software helped developers and small companies, such as Apogee (now 3D Realms), Epic MegaGames (now Epic Games), and id Software to take advantage to produce and develop with weak abilities. Nevertheless, Apogee created a series of video games called “Kroz series”, the idea is producing episodes as video games with a price until the full story is completed, this idea would convince the player to buy each episode to live and enjoy the story, and that will lead to a successful profit for the company.
The 3D accelerator cards for PC’s was first invented in 1996 after the release of Voodoo chipset. Following that, 3D rendering daughterboards, this lead to three-dimensional graphics which needs computations and memory-handling to produce a better quality of graphics. First-person shooters (FPS) plays a big role in the new technology. It is one of the most important concepts of improving a 3D hardware.
Fifth generation consoles
The period between 1993 and 1995 have seen the release of many different
consoles from different competitive companies. All these consoles made great sales and successful reputation. In 1993, Atari released the Atari Jaguar, the console made a big reputation at the time. After the release of the console, 3DO Company introduced their product 3DO Interactive Multiplayer. It was the biggest competitor to the Atari Jaguar at that time, unfortunately, because of the high price of the console huge amount of people were not convinced to own the product. For this reason, Atari sold way more products of their invention than 3DO Company. The year after, many Japanese companies decided to publish their inventions and join the competition. PC-FX released the Saturn, Sega released Saturn, and Sony introduced PlayStation. In the year 1995, the PlayStaion reached North America, thanks to that the PlayStation was the most successful console in selling products at the time.
At the same period, Nintendo invented a unique type of consoles, this console is the first to support the 3D depth perception. Unfortunately, the product did not receive the support that it needed, and for this reason, the product did not achieve the number of sales that was expected.
Nintendo had their own way in producing their games. They prefer to use Rom cartridges for the Nintendo 64 than using CD-ROMs. They believe that using cartridges is smoother and easier access times. In 1997 the Final Fantasy series was one of the most famous games for Nintendo. Later, the use of video games has switched to PlayStation and that lead to a success for the PlayStation. At the end of the period, it was clear that PlayStation rose to the top alone with no competitor. Sega was not lucky enough, it dropped after the lack of success. Saturn was only famous in Japan, unfortunately the advertising outside Japan have failed. The N64 was successful in North America and Europe. However, it always was a step ahead from PlayStation.
Sixth generation consoles
While Sony was terminating the market, Microsoft made a debut in the gaming field after developing their first gaming invention. the year 1998 witnessed the release of the first console support connecting to the internet and online play. the company who created the idea was no one than Sega. Nevertheless, the success did not stand for too long due to effect of the bad reputation of a previous console from the same company. After two years, Sony announced their new console, it was the PlayStation 2(PS2). In this console games are stored in DVD-based discs with a capacity of 4.7GB. The interesting part is that with the improvements in the processors and graphics the PS2 can play DVD movies and audio CDs. This brought a massive success for Sony. in 2001, Nintendo published the GameCube and it was their console that support optical discs. The GameCube was released a year after the release of the PlayStation 2. because of the massive reputation of the PlayStation 2, the players did not give attention to the GameCube when it was first published. This really affected the sales and progress for the GameCube. in the last few months in 2001, Microsoft decided to participate in the Gaming field. Their first invention was the Xbox, the console is based on Intel’s Pentium III CPU. After Microsoft released the Xbox, a collaboration happened between Bungie Studio’s and Microsoft and it lead to a complete success after Bungie Studio’s lunched their game “Halo: Combat Evolved” on the Xbox platform. Eventually, Xbox placed second after PlayStation in the number of selling products. In the same period, Nintendo was taking control of the handheld gaming industry. They released The Game Boy Advance, the device was popular with the high-resolution, and 16-bit processor.
Mobile games
The mobile games had its own reputation in Japan by early 2000s. In the year 2003, huge amount of mobile games was spread between the mobile phones.
